Jan. 14, 2010
Our first wimba class took place on Jan. 14 at 2:30. I opened up the room at 2:15 and 2 people showed up right after. I put up an agenda on the e-board on what we should accomplish that day.
Shortly after the class started, I counted 15 people in there. I inquired about the rest and was told some were in the chatroom. I did tell the students to go into the chatroom if for any reason they couldn't get into the wimba room. So, I was toggling between chatroom and wimba room. Chatroom seemed to do ok because we just chatted there and I posted the assignments/work for them to do. But the Wimba room got a little chaotic. Some couldn't get their mic up, others didn't have any video set up. I finally got the message across that each was supposed to do the assignments on the e-board, then post the answers on the discussion board. A couple of students couldn't find the discussion board. It was a little crazy.
By the time the class was over, I was exhausted. Luckily, this is a hybrid and we'll see each other face2face next Tuesday to iron things out. My goal is to decrease the number students not able to get into Wimba. I will also divide up the students and let them do team work and gather them back into the chatroom unless we fixed the glitches in the wimba room.
